# Lift breakdowns and emergencies

A lift breakdown is a nuisance. A recurring breakdown is more than that. I help with complex or repeated lift breakdowns and emergencies, independently of your maintenance provider.

When the same problems keep coming back, it is worth looking further. What is the cause? Was the fault actually resolved? Is the maintenance adequate? Is modernisation needed?

## An independent assessment

As an owner or manager you often depend on the maintenance company for technical information. As an independent specialist I can review the situation, the information available and the solution being proposed.

## In serious or prolonged downtime

In an emergency every day counts. I can help organise the next steps and assess the solutions proposed, including temporary provisions where those are needed.

## Spotting recurring breakdowns

A single breakdown need not mean anything in particular. Several breakdowns in a short space of time can signal a structural problem. Breakdown analysis therefore belongs within [contract management](/en/onderhoud-lift-contractbeheer), not alongside the maintenance.

- Adjusting the maintenance
- Repairing or replacing components
- Technical modernisation
- Revising the maintenance agreements
- Replacing the installation

1. 01A quick overview
2. 02An independent view
3. 03Better decisions
4. 04Control over costs
5. 05Less repetition

- ### 01How many breakdowns point to a structural problem?

There is no fixed number. What matters is the pattern: do the breakdowns recur on the same component, after the same conditions, or at ever shorter intervals? Several breakdowns in a short space of time on the same installation component is a clear signal to look beyond the last repair.

- ### 02What can HERMAT do during prolonged downtime?

In an emergency I help organise the next steps: what information is needed, which parties need to be at the table, which solutions are technically feasible and on what timescale. Where necessary I look at temporary provisions with you. HERMAT carries out no repairs itself.

- ### 03How do I know a breakdown has been properly resolved?

By setting the reported cause, the work carried out and the breakdowns that follow side by side. If the report only names a replaced component without naming the cause, the chance of a repeat is real. That is exactly what an independent assessment brings to light.

- ### 04Can a breakdown analysis wait until the next inspection?

Better not. An inspection tests safety requirements at one moment and is not a breakdown analysis. With a recurring problem, waiting mainly buys you more downtime and higher costs.
