# Lift inspections and statutory testing

An inspection report is the beginning, not the end. I help owners and managers assess the findings, organise the follow-up and keep an overview.

After a failed inspection, a maintenance company may propose a solution. I can assess independently which solution is technically appropriate and what it means for cost and service life.

## Inspection, maintenance and administration together

A recurring inspection finding can signal a structural problem. Looking at inspections, [maintenance](/en/onderhoud-lift-contractbeheer) and technical condition together gives a better picture of what is actually needed.

## Independent advice

HERMAT is not an inspection body, a lift supplier or a maintenance company. My role is that of independent adviser. I plan and coordinate the statutory periodic inspections and follow up the findings, in the Netherlands and in Belgium.

-   ### 01Who is responsible for the lift inspection?
    
    The owner or manager of the installation is responsible for having the statutory inspections carried out on time and for following up the findings. The inspection itself is carried out by a designated inspection body. HERMAT is not an inspection body, but supports you with the planning, the assessment and the follow-up.
    
-   ### 02What happens if a lift fails an inspection?
    
    The points identified have to be put right and reassessed. The maintenance company will often propose a solution. I assess whether that solution is technically appropriate, whether there are alternatives and what the consequences are for cost and service life.
    
-   ### 03Is an inspection the same as a baseline survey?
    
    No. An inspection tests whether the installation meets statutory safety requirements at the moment of inspection. A [baseline survey to NEN 2767](/en/nulmeting-lift) assesses the technical condition and the maintenance needs to come. A lift can pass its inspection and still have deteriorated sharply.
    
-   ### 04Can HERMAT coordinate the inspections for my portfolio?
    
    Yes. Planning, coordinating and following up statutory periodic inspections is a standard part of full lift management. You then keep a single point of contact for inspection bodies and maintenance providers.
